The Big Buck contest for paid up members of Ouabache Trails 3D Club is underway. If you're entering a deer, remember to bring it to the Boyz Bow Shop for measuring.
So far the heat has had an effect on limiting the number of deer being taken in our area. I spoke with a local CO who confirmed that the number of hunters in the field is way down from previous years and said it was due to the unusually dry and hot fall.
The weather does present the opportunity for more practice time. Remember, December ain't that far off and that will mean the indoor season starts.

September 5th Shoot
Considering the competition from Labor Day activities, our turn out for the final shoot of the year was not too shabby. The 60 or so shooters enjoyed a really great day for shooting 3D at Ouabache Trails Park.
There were a lot of compliments for John Thompson and Tom Tarter for the layout of the range for this year-ending shoot. They were able to include the uphill portion of the woods and were able to put in some shots we hadn't seen for awhile.
We want to thank everyone who came out to shoot with us this year and look forward to seeing you again next year. A special thanks goes to the people who supported the club with their dues this year. If you shot all six shoots you came out ahead on the money end of things; plus you got a spiffy tee shirt and will have a chance to join us at the annual dinner meeting where the Big Buck award will probably be announced.
A really big vote of thanks goes to those folks who took time to help set up the ranges on shoot day. Since we are limited to setting up and taking down the targets the day of the shoots we always appreciate any help that can be provided. I understand that we might be losing some of our good help next year and its going to be necessary to have some folks step forward and volunteer if we are to keep the club and its shoots alive in 2011.

June 6th Scores Are Posted
The scores from the June 6th results have now been posted. The death of my computer and the search for a replacement delayed my getting the scores up on the Results page.
Add to that the fact that John Thompson and I had made the trip to London, KY for the
ASA Pro Am. That kept us away from the Ouabache Trails shoot.
Club President Jeremy Sullivan and the volunteer crew did a great job of setting up a good range and "taking care of business".
Remember there will be no shoot at Ouabache Trails in July. See everyone the first Sunday in August.

May 2nd Scores Are Up
The scores from Sunday May 2nd, are posted. Just click on the link below.
Those who decided to pass on this shoot because of the weather missed a good one. There was a lot of water, mud, and bugs, but that's all just part of it. A good slide down a muddy creek bank is a cheap thrill, right? There was a suggestion that we make muck boots mandatory, but I think they were joking.
Turn out was a little disappointing, but given the weather and the storms we've had the last two or three days it was understandable that folks might decide to stay indoors. But, the clouds parted, the sun shined, and the fifty or so shooters had a good shoot. Scores were on a par with the usual for the individual classes.
The turn-out of traditional shooters was higher than usual as was the number of Open class shooters. The oddest thing was the fact that there were no women shooting! Unusual for one of our shoots.
We can really use some more help at the June shoot as John Thompson and Chuck Roche will not be able to work the shoot. One of the officers will be contacting members to line up some help on setting up and taking down at the June shoot. We'll also need folks helping out on the concessions as well and sign up and registration. If you're interested in helping out, please call Jeremy Sullivan, John Thompson, or Chuck Roche. You can also click on "Comments" below and drop me an email.

April 11th Shoot
Although there were a number of shoots in the area Sunday there were some 65 shooters who showed up to shoot Ouabache Trails.
Everyone seemed to agree that it was a challenging range that required a careful look to determine the yardage in each of the classes. A check of the results shows just how close the classes were in terms of the top placings.
A number of the shooters enjoyed a cool drink and a burger or hot dog after their shoot. Taking time to discuss, or cuss, the day's scores was pretty much ongoing.
Sometimes the rewards are worth the effort. Just ask this hungry archer. Hot dogs are more important than scores any day!
Remember we shoot every first Sunday of the month, so put May 2nd on your schedule before you forget it.
Another big THANKS! goes out to all those who helped setting up and taking down the range. Thanks also to the Knox County Park Board for their continuing support.

Next Shoot April 11th

The grill will be set up again to cook up some hot dogs and hamburgers. The cold drinks will also be available.
By the way, be sure to get out and try out the new practice range. For those who have been there before its just off the bridge at the bottom of the hill.

New Practice Range Being Set Up
John, Tom, and Chuck were out Tuesday digging holes and setting posts for a new practice range at Ouabache Park.
For the next shoot we should have three bag targets set at 20, 30, and 40 yards. The targets will be shot from just off the bridge.
This will not only add targets for practice, it will also improve range safety, which is always a concern.

March 7 Shoot
Great turnout for the first shoot of the year. Thanks to everyone who helped out and who came to shoot with us.
We probably had the greatest number of folks helping to set up that we've ever had. It sure makes the job a lot easier for everyone when we have such a great crew pitching in to help out.
We also had some great scores shot for so early in the year. Pete Rogers topped the list with a 307 in the Men's Open class. And what a great bunch of folks shooting the Men's Hunter class. They put up some really good scores and the competition was really close.
We hope that everyone enjoyed the new menu of grilled hamburgers and grilled hot dogs. Look for more of the same on April 11th.
We did have some hitches and they mainly involved folks forgetting to put their full name on their score cards or not putting their class on their score cards. But that's a minor glitch and it gives me something to do.
Remember too we're selling club memberships all year long. What you get for the $25.00 is a club tee shirt, the club awards dinner, and qualification for one of those cool shooter of the year polo shirts. Plus you save $5.00 on your entry fee at every shoot.
We'll be looking forward to seeing everyone at the next event.
J.R. Fox, Mark Utt, and Ryan Sauls tune up on the practice bag before hitting the range.
Here's the future of 3D archery and archery in general. We should take a lesson from these smiles and remember that its supposed to be about having fun out there!

March 7th Shoot-BRING BOOTS!!
If you've shot with us before you know that in the early part of the year there's gonna be water on the range. The heavy rains last fall and winter have created some new gullies and ditches as well as enlarged some others.
When John and Tom were out with their assistant scouting for target locations the ground was thawing a little which meant mud...and quite a bit of it. Of course the main creek is going to be involved in a number of shots.
The forecast is for sunny with temperatures in the 50's so it should be a great day for shooting.
We've added a number of new McKenzies so we'll be able to mix and match this year with a number of different targets to challenge everyone who chooses to shoot Ouabache Trails.
Again, bring your boots as well as your A Game!

Annual Meeting Report
The annual meeting of the Ouabache Trails 3D Club was held in the Board Room at the Knox County Parks office on January 15th.
Officers and board members were named for 2010, SOY shirts were presented to the respective winners, and other business was completed before adjournment.
Officers for 2010 are:
President-Jeremy Sullivan
Vice President-John Thompson
Secretary/Treasurer-Chuck Roche
Board members for 2010 are:
Kenny Kays (Immediate Past President)
Doug Hathaway (Immediate Past Vice President)
Tom Tarter
Allen Clark
Mark Utt
Brock Ridgely
Member tee shirts were passed out to the attending members. They will be available to members who were paid last year as well as those becoming members in 2010.
It was agreed to buy 5 new McKenzie targets. McKenzie is offering a club special on targets ordered before the end of February. Each target purchased will come with a replacement center. It was decided this reprsents a good value for the club. The new targets will have the unviersal scoring rings, both IBO and ASA.
The current plastic shooting stakes will be replaced with metal stakes for 2010. It was decided that the Pro/Semi Pro distance will be eliminated since we have not had any pros shooting at our club. We will have three shooting stakes set at 25 (white), 35 (yellow) and 45 (green).
Members are looking forward to our first shoot on March 7th.
