The new officers and board members have met with the Knox County Parks Board and things are on track to open the new 3D season the first Sunday of March. On order are several new McKenzie targets to replace some of the older Rineharts which have pretty much out-lived their usefulness. Also on order are inserts for some of the other Rineharts that will be used this year.
Mike, J.R., and the new team are ready to bring some new and exciting activities for the shooters coming out to Ouabache Trails. Come on out and share the fun!

First 2011 Shoot Scheduled
Get it on your calendar! Ouabache Trails 3D club will be shooting its first of the year the first Sunday on March 6th.
There is a new team doing the heavy lifting involved in setting up and running the shoots. Mike Utley succeeds Jeremy Sullivan as President. J.R. Fox, co-owner of Pass Through Archery in Princeton, has taken the reins as the new Vice-President and will be coordinating the work schedule. A New Team For Ouabache Trails!
Great news! J.R. Fox, co-owner of Pass Through Archery in Princeton, is leading a new team which will be responsible for the shoots at Ouabache Trails Park.
We will again be shooting on the first Sunday of each month beginning in March and continuing through October.
Memberships will again be available which will reduce the entry fee for shooters from $10.00 to $5.00.
A big shout out to J.R. for taking on this leadership role.

Final Posting
This will be the final posting I will be making to this blog.
Due to the lack of support, there will be no shoots sponsored by the club this year given the current circumstances.
John Thompson, Tom Tarter, Jeremy Sullivan and I will no longer be available to set up and do the preparation work necessary for the shoots. It has just gotten to be too much work for too few people to do the preparation work and then do the setup, registration, concessions, and everything else that goes into putting on a shoot.
In addition, John Thompson, Jeremy Sullivan and I have decided to shoot some of the national shoots. However they are, for the most part, held on dates that include the first Sunday of the month. We did attempt to work out an arrangement with another property owner. We tried to trade Sundays with Bigfoot but they were not willing.
We have asked for more volunteers before in the web site and the newsletters but have not had much response.
The park is keeping the targets they purchased and might consider allowing someone else to put on shoots sometime in the future.
Remaining funds will be donated to youth archery programs such as the National Archery in the Schools Program.

Big Buck Contest Underway
The Big Buck contest for paid up members of Ouabache Trails 3D Club is underway. If you're entering a deer, remember to bring it to the Boyz Bow Shop for measuring.
So far the heat has had an effect on limiting the number of deer being taken in our area. I spoke with a local CO who confirmed that the number of hunters in the field is way down from previous years and said it was due to the unusually dry and hot fall.
The weather does present the opportunity for more practice time. Remember, December ain't that far off and that will mean the indoor season starts.

September 5th Shoot
Considering the competition from Labor Day activities, our turn out for the final shoot of the year was not too shabby. The 60 or so shooters enjoyed a really great day for shooting 3D at Ouabache Trails Park.
There were a lot of compliments for John Thompson and Tom Tarter for the layout of the range for this year-ending shoot. They were able to include the uphill portion of the woods and were able to put in some shots we hadn't seen for awhile.
We want to thank everyone who came out to shoot with us this year and look forward to seeing you again next year. A special thanks goes to the people who supported the club with their dues this year. If you shot all six shoots you came out ahead on the money end of things; plus you got a spiffy tee shirt and will have a chance to join us at the annual dinner meeting where the Big Buck award will probably be announced.
A really big vote of thanks goes to those folks who took time to help set up the ranges on shoot day. Since we are limited to setting up and taking down the targets the day of the shoots we always appreciate any help that can be provided. I understand that we might be losing some of our good help next year and its going to be necessary to have some folks step forward and volunteer if we are to keep the club and its shoots alive in 2011.

Year End Shoot This Sunday
Sunday September 5th will close the year on the Ouabache Trails 3D season. The club and Knox County Parks Department want to express our thanks to everyone who showed up for our shoots.
